The deception

A poem

You looked alluring from afar,
Like a dazzling blanket of snow,
On a harsh and unyielding ground,
A vision of heaven itself,
Solace after ages,
A promise,
A hope.

But then,
I stepped closer,
And saw you,
The real you…

Petals of a dead flower,
Bathed in dust,
Fading away,
Trampled beneath a hundred feet,
Struggling for life,
As it ebbed away,
Minute by minute…

Hopes crumpled,
Promises forgotten…

Yet,
You looked alluring from afar,
And I choose to remember you for that,
And to forget the dead petals…
