Musings of a Solitary Wanderer: University of Moratuwa
The day was jam-packed with lectures. Towards the end, I was exhausted and on the verge of breaking down. I wanted to take a walk away from the ordinary; away from my usual paths between the lecture halls, the canteen, the library and the meeting halls; away from the usual faces; away from anything that resembled monotony.
I ventured towards the playground and allowed myself to soak in sights that I’ve missed for so long: people playing on the grounds- shouting, cheering, running and having a good time; lovers engrossed in silence; Basketball players practising their moves with relentless passion; athletes walking across the grounds with heavy bags slung on their shoulders; dancers on the rooftop area of the canteen complex; people just sitting down and enjoying the company of others…
It isn’t the first one of my random walks across the university in hopes of finding new niches of life and colour. Not my last one either. Yes, the journeys may be lonely, full of risk and weird to passing onlookers. Yet, it makes me happy. When we take the time to enjoy fresh outlooks in everyday sites, we are blessed with peace of mind; a sense that our current stresses are cleared away to expose a calmer state of soul; simply, heavenly bliss on earth.
