I Made You Some Christmas Cake

A poem

There’s something special about December-
That nip in the air,
Tinsel and twinkle all around,
The smell of goodies being baked,
Joyous laughter overflowing…

Memories of making a cake at home,
Chopping fruits into tiny pieces,
Taking turns to lick (I mean stir) the batter,
That excitement to taste the first piece!

I can’t be home this Christmas too,
But I’ll think of these happy memories,
And wait patiently to hear “I made you some Christmas cake”…

Thank you Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for the Writing Prompt: I made you some (home food). Your poem on dumplings made me think about the food I miss from home and write a poem after ages.

Have a good holiday season and I hope you get to enjoy your favourite home food!
